Business regeneration
BUSINESSES will be discussing the future of two major regeneration projects on Canvey this week.
Tomorrow (Sept 11) businesses will be focusing on Charfleets Industrial Estate and on Friday (Sept 12) they will be looking at Canvey Town Centre.
Initial meetings were held with businesses in June and Castle Point Regeneration Partnership has put together action plans which it hopes to discuss with businesses this week.
At the Canvey town centre meeting, the Regeneration Partnership will be sharing ideas for short-term improvements to the town as well as explaining the timetable for involving the wider public in ideas for long-term improvement.
At the Charfleets meeting, the Partnership will be sharing ideas for a Charfleets Business Initiative, which could include infrastructure improvements, improved security and changes to make the estate more environmentally-friendly.
Invites have been sent to all businesses in the town centre and on Charfleets.
Cllr Norman Smith, Castle Point Borough Council's cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "The Castle Point Regeneration Partnership sees the revitalisation of Canvey town centre and Charfleets as essential to the successful regeneration of the borough.
"We are planning extensive consultation with local residents and the broader community, but these initial sessions are helping to kick things off with the views of the businesses and shopkeepers already based here."
The Regeneration Partnership includes Castle Point Borough Council, Essex County Council, Canvey Island Town Council, the RSPB, Government representatives and regional regeneration bodies like Thames Gateway South Essex.
